What people report

Signs, not a diagnosis.

These are the things people describe when they ask for ruqyah. They are not proof, and they are not a medical finding. Illness, grief, and exhaustion can look the same. See a physician for the body and the mind. Read how a sitting is actually done before you decide what this is.

If there is no clear sign and you want protection only, go to protection and ruqyah.

A night interior drawn in brass line: a small moon and a narrow pointed window.
Night, a window, a moon. A house can be part of what is brought.

Black magic Sihr

Often described as a change that will not settle, in a person or between people.

How this is treated

  • A marriage or a family bond that soured without a cause anyone can name
  • Tightness, heaviness, or pain that remains after a doctor has looked
  • Work, marriage, or health blocked in a pattern that keeps returning
  • Sleep broken, or dreams that repeat and disturb
  • A new aversion to prayer, to a spouse, or to hearing the Quran
  • An amulet, a powder, or a buried item found — do not keep it; mention it

Jinn possession Jinn

Reported as something foreign in the body, the sleep, or the house.

How this is treated

  • A sense of being watched, pressed, or addressed in a way that is not your own thought
  • Waking afraid, or sleep broken by a weight or a presence
  • A strong reaction when the Quran is recited aloud
  • Speech or impulses that the person and the family both find foreign
  • Marks or pain a clinician has not explained

Haunting Asaib

A place, more than one person. Check the ordinary explanations first.

How this is treated

  • One room the household avoids
  • Several people sleeping badly in the same home
  • Animals unsettled, with no ordinary cause found
  • Sound, movement, or a smell that remains after the practical checks
  • A house that felt ordinary, and then did not

Evil eye Nazar

Usually sudden, and usually after a blessing was seen or praised.

How this is treated

  • Energy, ease, or health dropping at once after praise or a gathering
  • A child, a pregnancy, a trade, or a skill that was thriving and then faltered
  • Headache, weeping, or restlessness that arrived with that change
  • The change followed admiration, an announcement, or a blessing put on display

Envy Hasad

The wish that good be taken. It can be aimed at you, or alive in you.

How this is treated

  • A blessing that does not settle: income, marriage, children, or standing
  • Coldness or harm you can trace to someone’s resentment
  • Your own envy, which you want to be rid of
  • Fear of being envied, strong enough that it has begun to govern the house
